Yes, some insurances are accepted. If your insurance is not listed, don't give up. I instead, provide clients with a "superbill" to submit to their insurance provider. Insurance providers often offer reimbursement for out-of-network therapists.
Check-in with your insurance to verify if you are eligible and to ask about the reimbursement amount.
In the meantime, you retain full responsibility for payment of services.
I also recommend asking your insurance company these questions:
Don't forget flexible spending accounts and flex cards. If you have tax-free money deducted from your paycheck for Medical Savings, you can use that to pay for therapy.
Choosing to pay privately (without insurance) helps to ensure your utmost confidentiality and privacy when working together. I do not need to release your records to any third party without your consent. Also, when using your insurance, I must diagnose you with a mental health condition that will become part of your medical record. If you choose to pay privately, information about the nature of your treatment and the issues discussed in sessions will remain solely between you and I. Thus, it is important to consider which option you prefer and are most comfortable with prior to beginning treatment.
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs. In general, you can expect to discuss the current happenings in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and report progress (or any new insights gained) from the previous therapy session or outside your session. I like to utilize research, exercises, books, and other resources in our sessions and I usually have you work on these skills outside of therapy. By the time our journey is completed together, the goal is that you act as your own counselor!
I am really glad to hear you are dedicated to the process and you are ready to start your journey! Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It's the dedicated work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.
The length of therapy varies for each client and is influenced by the presenting problem as well as the goals of the counseling process. I prefer to see clients on a weekly basis for the first several weeks to develop an understanding of who you are and your developmental history as well as understand your needs and formulate a specific treatment plan. Once we feel that progress has been made and your symptoms have improved, we can reduce frequency of treatment to biweekly, monthly, or as needed.
A client who desires to change but might not know what to do or where to start. Is taking the necessary steps to improve their world and those around them. Sees inward reflection as beneficial. Is reliable and committed to meeting together!
